Surfing Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a renowned surfing destination, with its popularity booming after being featured in Endless Summer 2 (a must see prior to surfing Costa Rica). The country is safe, beautiful, friendly, and has amazing surfing on both coasts. With the recent introduction of direct flights from the United States, surfing Costa Rica has become almost effortless.

Surfing Costa Rica can be broken into three main areas: The Pacific North (Guanacaste Region), the Pacific South, and the Caribbean. Year round warm water, warm air and offshore breezes, especially in Guanacaste, assure epic conditions.

The biggest waves occur in the rainy season (May-October) on the pacific side, but the best waves occur during the dry season (November-April) when strong offshore winds and the right swell create perfect waves for surfing Costa Rica.

But honestly…anytime…is the right time for surfing Costa Rica!
